Black Leggings. Not the workout kind, the soft kind. For naps, for class, for when you want to do yoga but don’t really want to put on anything that squeezes. My go to plain black leggings are these from Madewell or these Universal Standard ones.
Plain Tees. I don’t believe in the white Tee Shirt, as a lover of mustard. Black is my go to but I also love a bold blue, a stripe, etc. I really love Everlane (both the men’s v-neck and the cropped), these oversized messy AF American Eagle shirts, and Universal Standard yet again.
A pair of nice dress pants. For conferences or any day you need a little fancy. These Cigarette Pants from Universal Standard are the only pants I have ever loved. (and on SALE)
Stock up on bras. Make sure you get measured. I have some very pretty nice Elomi bras and also a fleet of these Tomboyx soft bras for everyday. Comfort comes first.
You can’t go wrong with Chelsea boots. Get a pretty plain pair and you can wear them to a conference, with denim cutoffs in the Spring, with every dress in your closet. I like the Madewell Ainsley (whenever they restock) but these look close and for winter nothing beats Blundstones.
Sandals. Tevas, Birkenstocks. Basically something Ugly Cute. Also my Dr. Scholls are so cute for a little dressy moment.
Blouses (especially for teaching). Make them
cute. My go to for this is Retrolicious! Modcloth is good too. For more standard blouses I, surprise surprise, turn to Universal Standard.
Bodysuits! I like them as an alternative to blouses and they also work amazing with skirts. My absolute favorites are from Samantha Pleet but I love Target ones a lot (and they have full butt coverage! A Miracle).
Nice PJs. This doesn’t have to be expensive—do not sleep on Target’s Stars Above line. Put I also like J.Crew for this and some other good bets are Eberjey, Brooklinen, and Loft.
If you have long hair (like enough for even the tiniest pony tale), get thee a Super Scrunchie from Free People. It does all the work for you.
You need a bag. For an amazing everyday leather tote, go no further than the Madewell Transport. I have been carrying this thing since 2017 and nothing else has come close to it’s beauty and ability to carry an ungodly amount of crap. I also have a Dagne Dover canvas tote (huge), a medium Telfar (yellow), and many others.
For something smaller, I love my Everlane bag. They go in and out of stock, but are always on Poshmark. I love it but it definitely carries far less than the Madewell tote. More of a midsized bag, but I can definitely shove my Ipad and some books and notebooks in it. I use a carabiner to attach my water bottle, because I am a bisexual.
For a backpack, I again turn to Everlane and their Modern Snap Backpack. This also disappears and returns. Sleek and simple, perfect to display my collection of acrylic pins. It’s not HUGE but big enough (she says, shoving 900 things in it).
